Half it in the bag...

The ever-exciting and truly talented bunch Halfset are back gigging this week with a date on Friday in the Sugar Club.
One of my favourite moments of this years' Electric Picnic was seeing them perform on the Saturday night in the Body & Soul area.
Definitely a gig not to be missed, so make sure you get your arse into gear and catch them live.
They're getting on now so you never know, this could be the last time you get to see them live - they're not that young anymore!
;)

**P.S. Watch out for their drummer. He's renowned for throwing hissing fits if things don't go his way.
Very entertaining.

***P.P.S. Apparently Carly Sings is totally hot and really awesome live so make sure you catch her set too.

As much as I would love to be off giggin' it up in Dublin this weekend, I will be dancing to Datarock in CiRCA.
I am starting to think CiRCA is the best place to go to in Toronto on a Friday night now bro.

C'mon Obscure, how often do I show my support for an Irish band? Give me some credit.

I have never been to CiRCA....or have I man? I can't remember. I don't think we used to drink there dude.
I saw Datarock about a year ago. Wasn't too keen on them, until they played 1987 cheese anthem "(I've Had) the Time of My Life" over the speaker system.

Amazing.

Credit due Pedro, many thanks for the plug, and the constant reminder that I am old, and grumpy.
Was that Datarock gig in Crawdaddy? The one we did support for?
That was a strange one that night.

Shit son, I hope they play that at the end of the night.
Better start learning the lyrics.

"I've had the time of my life.
No I never felt this way before.
Yes I swear it's the truth.
And I owe it all to you.
'Cause I've had the time of my life.
And I've searched through every open door.
'Til I found the truth.
And I owe it all to you."

Yesssss, you better not be fucking with me dude. I want to hear this song!
I have some new-found respect for Leigh after she made me watch fucking Dirty Dancing with her over and over again.

Jesus, that was the gig Cillian! Fuck, that's a pretty awesome coincidence that Jack is seeing them play on Friday, the same night I am going to see you play. AND it is almost a year to the day when you supported them.
Freeeeeeaky!

Jack - Hahahaha! Write an article on Dirty Dancing (Patrick Swayze in particular) and the level of impact he has had on pop-cultre in 2007 going into 2008!!! Hahaha, it will be awesome.
:D

Obscure dude, what were the like? From a musician's point of view, were they good live or total douche-bags?
I agree Pete, it's a little trippy that obscure dude and Datarock played together at the exact same time last year and then have gigs on the same night.

Oh yeah brother, "Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey: Why Dirty Dancing is still an important and relevant movie in 2008."

That's kinda weird alright Pedro(cue Twilight Zone music).
Jack, they were alright. Everybody seemed to be there for that Fa Fa Fa single. I can confirm they did 'time of my life', and it was quite fun, but it went on too long. They were nice guys, but somewhat cynical i thought. They were a bit miffed that they were lumped in with the new rave phenomenon, yet they missed the point . The point being the new rave term slapped on them had ultimately helped them get where they were. But they were good live Jack, and I'm pretty sure i saw Pedro shed a little tear when the sax player launched into the Dirty Dancing solo in the middle 8.

Argh! So they're douche bags then.
I'm hoping that song goes on for ages mate, it will make me realise that there was an actual reason why Dirty Dancing was made.
What's with the Dirty Dancing theme to this blog (my fault obviously).
Hehehe, I can see the P-Man shedding a tear out of anger at that song, but not joy.
That song isn't pretentious or miserable enough for Peter........But if it had have been Interpol, then it's a whole other story.
